DAUGHTERS OF A RIOT
(produced by OX- part of Work MORE 7)
March 14 & 15, 2018
Counterpulse Theater, San Francisco

This is a show, a celebration and a riot!

Daughters of a Riot commemorates the August 1966 Compton's Cafeteria Riots. With lip-synch, storytelling, singing, video, and audience participation, drag queens and storytellers trace the queer genealogies and histories that brought them to the stage. At this moment when queer visibility seems bolder than ever before, while queer identity becomes more complicated, nuanced and intersectional, Daughters of a Riot celebrates the queer ancestors of the Tenderloin who paved the way.

Created by VivvyAnne ForeverMORE!, Honey Mahogany, Dulce de Leche, and LOL McFiercen with Dr. Dreame, Felicia Flames Elizondo, and Rexy Amaral, storytelling coach Mia Satya, and production assistant Silk Worm.

Daughters of a Riot was originally presented in 2016 as the seventh edition of Work MORE!. Work MORE! provides a platform for collaborative art-making that utilizes drag to disturb traditional notions of beauty, femininity and masculinity while promoting interdisciplinary collaborations among artists who co-create rather than compete. Work MORE! builds on San Francisco’s long history of drag as a community-building strategy, celebrating the diversity within the form.

Daughters of a Riot has been supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission and San Francisco Grants for the Arts.
